ST AGATHE HISTORICAL SOCIETY BUILDING FUNDPO Box 237 St. Agatha, Maine 04772 Dear Members and Friends,
Since its inception in 1978, the Ste.Agathe Historical Society has attained numerous artifacts and farm implementations through the generous donations of our friends and patrons. The Pelletier-Marquis House, the granary and a small shed are the only storage places available to keep the growing collection. It is getting more and more difficult to display the artifacts in the manner that they deserve because there is just not enough space available. We are in need of extra space if we are to continue to preserve our old farm equipment and artifacts for future generations to enjoy. To that end, the Society has undertaken a bold new project... a Cultural Preservation Center. With the Preservation Center, the Society could store many items and rotate the theme of displays. The Pelletier-Marquis House would be used as a showcase of an early Acadian home with the artifacts pertaining to our culture and heritage. Eventually, a section of the Preservation Center would be used to accomodate visitors looking for old photographs or genealogical information. A reception area would contain all the written materials that the Society has collected. The Ste.Agathe Historical Society is busy preparing for final construction plans for the new Cultural Preservation Center. The Center, a 40' x 60' two story building, is to be located behind the existing Historical House Museum on a piece of land donated by Edwin Pelletier and Sons of Frenchville. Last year, the the town of St.Agatha awarded the society $5,000.00 to be used as seed monies to get the project going. The funds were used to install a concrete foundation. One of our prize acquisitions, a 1926 McCormack threshing machine, presently sits on the concrete floor of our future Center, awaiting the walls and roof to shelter it from the elements. It is not alone. We have numerous other donated farm implements that would benefit from the shelter that the Preservation Center would provide. The proposed cost of the new building is $80,000.00. Our goal is to raise the $80,000.00 in 180 days. With the donation of the land, the seed money from the Town of St.Agatha, and a few generous donations we have already raised $21,075.00. Although this is a good start, we need much more. In order to make our plans a reality, we are turning to our members and friends for help and financial support. We have established a "Giving Pyramid" in an effort to help you determine how you can help.
