Fire Department

The St. Agatha Fire Department is a volunteer organization and operates on an annual operating budget of $22,000. The department was formed in 1945 and is governed by a Board of Directors and Fire Chief. There are approximately 20 volunteer fire fighters. The current fire station was built in 1989 and houses the departments two trucks (1 pumper and 1 tanker), rescue unit and "Jaws of Life" equipment. The department usually meets monthly and conducts scheduled training excercises. In 2001, the department responded to 8 fires, three mutual aids and 1 accident.

Emergency Rescue Services

Emergency Rescue Services are provided by Ambulance Services, Inc (ASI), based out of Fort Kent. One rescue unit is stationed in St. Agatha. The ASI Board of Directors are representatives from the 11 communities which are serviced by ASI. Funding is solely provided by the member municipalities. St. Agatha's approximate annual appropriation to ASI is $13,500.

The ambulance located in St. Agatha is staffed by volunteer EMTs and covers the towns of St.Agatha, Frenchville and the unorganized territories of Sinclair, Guerrette and Madawaska Lake.

There are currently seven volunteer EMTs based in St.Agatha. In 2001, the St.Agatha crew responded to nearly 500 calls including 170 emergency calls and 330 transfers to local nursing homes and outside hospitals.

County Sheriff

The Town of St.Agatha does not operate a local police force. Services are provided by the Aroostook County Sheriff's Department and the Maine State Police.
